Apple cider vinegar was famously used by Hippocrates – the father of medicine – as a remedy for numerous ailments.Made with crushed, aged apples, this fermented wonder fruit boasts a wealth of health benefits.Naturally high in potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous, apple cider vinegar has been linked to weight loss, maintaining a healthy digestive system and a host of other health benefits.

While science is yet to provide extensive evidence of many of these benefits, there’s no harm in trying this inexpensive, natural remedy before turning to over-the-counter or prescription drugs.

Here are 6 awesome ways you can use apple cider vinegar to cure everyday ailments:

1. Stopping Acid Reflux & Heartburn

Apple cider vinegar helps break down food by assisting the acidic environment of the stomach. Next time you have acid reflux or heartburn, take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with water and see how you feel after ten to twenty minutes.

2. Fighting Candida (Excess Yeast)

Excess yeast in the body (Candida) is a common condition, and research has shown that the acid and enzymes in apple cider vinegar help kill this overgrowth.

Be aware that you may find that taking apple cider vinegar initially makes the condition worse. This is caused the Herxheimer reaction, a process when the body can’t remove the toxins from the yeast fast enough, which causes the symptoms to worsen before improving. You can try the same for sunburn too. Simply apply to the skin with a cotton cloth to relieve soreness, or pour 1 cup of apple cider vinegar (25/75 mix) into a bath and have a long soak.

4. Acne Cure/Skin Toner

Apple cider vinegar is considered an effective natural acne treatment because it cleanses and heals without drying out the skin. Using a 25/75 vinegar-water mix, apply like a toner with a cotton ball after a bath or shower. You may choose to mix the vinegar with a few drops of essential oil for fragrance, but once dry the vinegar smell will disappear completely.

For those without acne, apple cider vinegar also makes for a good natural toner that assists in firming the skin.

5. Curing Foot & Skin Fungus

As with Candida, apple cider vinegar can help kill yeast and fungus on the skin and nails. Simply apply a 25/75 mixture of apple cider vinegar and water to the affected area. It may burn a bit at first, but within 48 hours you’ll notice the fungus already starting to clear up.

6. Stopping Dandruff

One cause of dandruff is excess yeast growth on the scalp. The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it difficult for yeast to grow.

Using a 50-50 mix of Apple Cider Vinegar and water, apply to the scalp with a spray bottle or a cotton cloth, put on a shower cap and leave for 1 hour before rinsing off with warm water. Try this treatment twice a week as a natural alternative to anti-dandruff shampoos that contain harsh chemicals.
